The Story of Moondog

The Story of Moondog was released in 1957. It was numbered 7099 on the Prestige label. It was designed by Reid Miles and features the handwriting of Andy Warhol’s mother, Julia Warhola. Her work was recognized with an award from the Art Directors Club. Unfortunately, the award was engraved, “Andy Worhol’s Mother”, the same misspelling that occurred on this cover.

This photo is of the UK reissue on the 4 Men label of the original – and very hard to find – Prestige release. The Italian label DOXY re-released the LP in its original cover (though without the Prestige logo) in the limited edition box set “Andy Warhol’s Jazz Record Covers, Vol 2” in December 2011.
